Do you bathe like our neighbors to the east?

Reading time: 3 minutes

Bathing. Some see it as the ultimate relaxation, while others see it as wallowing in your own “filth.”

Because tastes differ, we will refrain from passing judgment. It is always better to refrain from judgment anyway. But anyway, we sell alkaline mineral salts, and a bathtub is one of the ways you can experience their positive effects. Further on, we will explain how you can enjoy the benefits of alkaline mineral salts even without a bathtub. First, we will explain exactly how an alkaline bath works.

Alkaline bath water?

Alkaline mineral salt makes your bath water alkaline. It raises the pH value to 8.5. This is beneficial because it activates your skin's self-healing function.

The bottom layer of the epidermis, the basal layer, should be quite alkaline for optimal skin renewal, ideally between 7.5 and 8.5. If this environment is more acidic, the skin renewal process is disrupted. Bathing in bath water with a pH of 8.5 is therefore perfect.

Like in an airplane

Your skin has various functions, one of which is that it acts as a ‘third kidney’. Your kidneys filter waste products, such as urea and creatinine, from the blood and excrete them together with excess water and salts via the urine. Your skin does not do exactly the same thing, but it can certainly remove waste products.

When you lie in a bath with alkaline mineral salts, an osmotic effect occurs. This effect can be compared to the suction force that occurs when you open the door of an airplane in flight. The pressure in the plane changes, causing the contents of the plane to be pulled out. In the bath, there is also a change in pressure, causing acidic waste products to be drawn out through the skin. It may sound strange, but the positive results speak for themselves, as alkaline mineral salts provide:

  1. Deacidification: waste products are removed through the skin.
  2. Mineralization: minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium are absorbed through the skin.
  3. Less muscle pain and better blood circulation: magnesium and calcium.
  4. Beautiful skin: supple and elastic.
  5. Moisture regulation: potassium and sodium.

Our eastern neighbors

Many Germans can often be found in a bathtub. Many German houses and apartments therefore have a bathtub. Without a bathtub, it is not a bathroom, but just a room. So people like to bathe. In Germany, alkaline mineral salt is a little better known than in the Netherlands. It is even an important element that should not be missing in the bath. It makes bathing sessions extra ‘gründlich’. Some time ago, this alkaline mineral salt made its way to the Netherlands. Many people benefit from it, including babies, as alkaline bath water has the same pH value as amniotic fluid

No bath or don't feel like a bath?

Do you want the health benefits of alkaline mineral salt, but you don't have a bath or you don't like it? Then you can opt for a foot bath, hand bath, or compress, for example. A foot bath is popular with wellness enthusiasts and is wonderful for tired feet, before bed, or as the start of a pedicure. Did you know that the skin on the soles of your feet can absorb and remove substances? This makes it ideal for absorbing minerals and removing acids at the same time.

Another option is to exfoliate with some alkaline mineral salt. You can do this in the shower. Massaging with a mixture of mineral salt and some plant oil is also recommended. Be sure to rinse off afterwards, of course.

A bath has one disadvantage

Taking a bath every day uses a lot of water. It is preferable to opt for a foot bath, for example. However, if you do choose to take a bath occasionally, make sure you enjoy it to the fullest. With all these health benefits, you can treat yourself every now and then.
